In an effort to attract more students colleges have begun to expand the list of majors they offer. However, no matter how many new majors colleges ad these ten are always the most popular.
Business – Business Administration and Management is hands down the most popular major at most universities. A degree in business can provide you with a solid basis for you future career. It also puts you in the same bucket as the others who picked the most obvious of majors.
Social Sciences and History – This is where you go when you want to learn more than you want earn. Social sciences and history include anthropology, economics, geography, sociology and political science.
Education – If you are looking for a degree that will always be relevant, look no further than education. You may be under paid, overworked and knee deep in crying five year olds but this degree will leave you with a sense of purpose. After all where would anyone be without teachers.
Psychology – Depending on the college and your ambitions this is one of the hardest / easiest majors you can pick. Many psychology majors never actually end up in the professional world of psychology. They get turned off by the years of graduate school and realizing they are as crazy as the people they want help.
Nursing – If you don’t mind long shifts and sick and dying people nursing is for you. With competitive wages and great medical benefits, there isn’t much more you could ask for in a job.
Communications – This is the degree that says, so what if I couldn’t get in to business school I got a degree didn’t I? Depending on your focus this is either a very respectable college degree or four years of drinking, both sound good to me.
Biology – A degree in Biology leaves people with endless possibilities. It is a great degree for anyone looking to become a doctor or veterinarian. Your mother will be so proud.
Engineering – A major that usually produces a high salaried job from the start. But, plan on taking very aggressive math and science courses with this major.
English – An English major can be involved in copywriting, editing and teaching, but not just limited to that. Also a good gateway degree to graduate school, or law school.
Computer Science – A highly technical field involving a lot of advanced math and computer courses. Though, many universities have seen sharp drops in their computer science majors.
